Enshrouded Map Guide - World Size, Regions, Fast Travel & Interactive Maps
Complete Enshrouded map guide: world size, every region with level ranges, Flame Altar fast travel rules, Ancient Spires, and the best interactive map tools.
Last Updated: October 30, 2026 (Enshrouded 1.0, Hotfix 1.0.0.3)
The full Enshrouded map has been open since update 1.0, and it is larger than most new players expect. This guide breaks down Embervale’s confirmed size, its major regions and level ranges, the Flame Altar fast travel system, and the interactive map tools worth keeping open on a second screen.
How Big Is the Enshrouded Map?
Roughly 10×10 km — that is Keen Games’ own figure. In the studio’s world design team AMA, the developers explained that the world launched in Early Access at 8×8 km and was later extended by about 1 km on every side.
The team builds Embervale with procedural generation tools and then polishes the result by hand, which is why the map feels curated rather than randomly stitched together. The world itself is Embervale, a kingdom being swallowed by the Shroud, and because the terrain is voxel-based, the map is effectively three-dimensional: you can tunnel through hills, dig out cliffsides, and reshape the ground around your base.
Larger figures circulating on some aggregator sites — 30 km² or more — come from unverified sources and should be ignored; the AMA progression is the only size claim Keen has actually published. Keep in mind the AMA dates to December 2024, and 1.0 reportedly pushed the world further north with Cinder’s Cradle, so the exact current footprint has not been officially restated.

What Regions Are on the Enshrouded Map?
The map is organized into major regions that scale from the level 1 Springlands forest to the endgame volcanic biome of Cinder’s Cradle. The community database enshrouded.tools tracks 7 regions for 1.0, but Keen has not published an official region-by-region boundary list — whether sub-areas like Low Meadows or the new Cinder’s Cradle count as standalone regions is not officially broken out — so this guide sticks to the named areas you will actually cross.
The level bands below are reportedly carried over from Early Access-era guides; Keen has adjusted some progression requirements since, so treat them as approximations rather than hard gates.
| Region | Theme | Approx. level | Know before you go |
|---|---|---|---|
| Springlands | Lush starting forest | 1+ | Tutorial zone; your first Flame Altar and the Blacksmith rescue happen here |
| Low Meadows | Meadowland within Springlands | 7-10 | Reportedly a sub-area rather than a standalone region |
| Revelwood | Ruined capital region (Pikemead’s Reach) | 10-18 | First major Flame boss, the Fell Wispwyvern |
| Nomad Highlands | Arid highlands | 18-22 | Transition zone on the way to the desert |
| Kindlewastes | Open desert | Mid-game, typical enemy levels 21–27* | Long sightlines make it the map’s navigation gear-check |
| Blackmire | Swamp biome | Mid-game, most spawns level 15* | Added in 2025’s Blackmire update (reportedly) |
| Albaneve Summits | Snowy peaks | 28+ | Added in Souls of the Frozen Frontier (Nov 2024); home of the Fell Dragon Youngling |
| Veilwater Basin | Water basin | Late-mid, typical enemy levels 37–45* | Added in Wake of the Water (Nov 2025); one of 1.0’s new Hollow Halls sits underwater here |
| Cinder’s Cradle | Endgame volcanic biome | 40+ (late game) | New in 1.0; lava wasteland below, floating islands above |
*Rows marked with an asterisk carry level figures from the enshrouded.tools database (checked 2026-10-30) — typical enemy levels per region, a database figure rather than an official difficulty label. Notably, the database files Blackmire as a sub-area of Revelwood rather than a standalone region, and while its typical spawns sit around level 15, its full spawn range runs from 15 up to 43.

What Did Enshrouded 1.0 Add to the Map?
Update 1.0 opened the entire map and added Cinder’s Cradle, a new endgame biome located beyond Veilwater Basin in the north.
Cinder’s Cradle is a two-layer biome: a lava-scorched wasteland at ground level and a stretch of ancient floating islands above it, connected by Shroud vines. It comes with its own enemy faction — 14 new enemy types, 37 counting variants — and hosts the endgame arc: the final boss Vorgoth waits at The Ancient Citadel, which we cover in full in our Vorgoth boss guide.
The rest of the map changed too. 1.0 added two new Hollow Halls dungeons (one in the Albaneve Summits, one underwater in Veilwater Basin), new Shroud Roots along the edges of Springlands, Blackmire, and Kindlewastes, and opened doors that had been locked since Early Access. As the developers put it in the 1.0 changelog, “the story of Embervale is concluded - for now.” We track everything else the patch changed in our 1.0 update overview.
How Does Fast Travel Work? (Flame Altars Explained)
Fast travel runs entirely on Flame Altars: every altar you place is both a construction zone and a free teleport point you can jump between from the map.
You craft the first altar from 5 stone blocks, and community guides note that its first upgrade is free in 1.0. Upgrading your Flame level requires materials earned from bosses, and each level raises how many altars you may place — the cap grows to 15 during 1.0’s progression and reaches 16 once you unlock Flame Level 11, the final tier. That is a real budget, not a rounding error: decide which outposts and farming hubs deserve a slot before you spend them.
One rule to memorize: teleporting is blocked inside the Shroud. Plan your exit before you enter the fog, and placing an altar just outside a Shroud zone you intend to farm repeatedly is the standard habit.

What Do Ancient Spires Do on the Map?
Every region has one Ancient Spire — a puzzle tower with no enemies inside — and reaching its top reveals nearby points of interest on your map while unlocking a teleport point.
That makes the spires the backbone of efficient exploration: climb the spire first, then sweep everything it just uncovered. 1.0 also made map housekeeping easier, because markers and chests can now be renamed — a small change that matters a lot once a long campaign has you juggling dozens of pinned locations.
Which Interactive Map Tools Are Best for Enshrouded?
The two community tools most players recommend cover different jobs: one is a navigational world map, the other a data lookup. Both are free to use in a browser.
| Tool | Best for | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| MapGenie: Enshrouded | Route planning and spotting what you have missed | Full Embervale map with categorized location markers; multiple community guides recommend it, and it has been updated for 1.0 content |
| enshrouded.tools | Looking up items, enemies, quests, and builds | Filterable database — 3,700+ items, 146 enemies, 169 quests, 7 regions tracked — plus a build planner; its data snapshot is based on Steam build 25988036, so double-check anything the live game has rebalanced since |
Bookmark both: the map gets you moving, and the database answers the “where does this drop” questions without alt-tabbing into a wiki rabbit hole.

Enshrouded Map FAQ

Roughly 10×10 km according to Keen Games’ world design AMA (up from 8×8 km at Early Access launch). The exact footprint after 1.0’s northward expansion is [TBC].
Can you fast travel inside the Shroud?
No. Teleporting is blocked while you are inside the Shroud, so plan an exit route before pushing into the fog.
How many Flame Altars can you place?
The cap scales with your Flame level — 15 during 1.0’s progression, and 16 after unlocking Flame Level 11.
How many regions does the 1.0 map have?
The enshrouded.tools database tracks 7 regions, but the official region-by-region split (for example, whether Low Meadows or Cinder’s Cradle count separately) is [TBC].
Which interactive map should I use?
MapGenie if you want an annotated world map for navigation, enshrouded.tools if you want a filterable item, enemy, and quest database with a build planner.
